Driveways

The first step to installing a new asphalt driveway is to evaluate and prepare the site. Excavation and removal of the existing surface and/or dirt to create the appropriate sub-grade and ensure proper water flow is the first step. DaCosta Paving ensures this very crucial preparation is performed with diligence.

We typically allow this base settle for 1-3 weeks after heavy compaction. Before paving we will return and evaluate; adding additional stone and re compacting if necessary.

Lastly, the new asphalt is installed and compacted over the prepared stone base. This step is typically the fastest of the entire process and will typically be completed within a few hours.

Driveway Resurfacing

You may choose to resurface your driveway if it’s showing wear and tear, but the base is still structurally sound. We may decide to saw cut and patch several broken areas throughout the driveway prior to recapping.

This option could be less expensive than completely removing, and replacing, an existing driveway, and will still add years of life to your driveway surface.

Belgium Blocks

In many cases, the grass line along side driveways may be higher than the driveway surface. We typically recommend belgium block curbing. Not only does this provide a beautiful aesthetic to the driveway but helps maintain strength throughout the edges of the driveway which can sometimes be compromised by not backfilling or driving over the edges.

Many clients also choose to install belgium block aprons in the front of their driveways. This typically serves as an aesthetic complement to the driveway; however, we often run conduit to allow for electrical lines to pass through either side, allowing for lighting

Aside from belgium blocks we offer a variety of masonry services including unilock or bluestone patios and walkways, retaining walls, stone walls, etc.

Drainage

One of the most important aspects to driveway installation is proper drainage.

Directing water away from the house, garages, and foundations can be challenging depending on the project.

With the help of a transit and years of experience, we will assess the best way to achieve proper drainage in your driveway or parking lot.

This may be achieved with one or a combination of several techniques including French drainage, catch basins, drainage swells, or simply grading.

Light Excavating and Landscaping

DaCosta Construction also offers light excavating and landscaping services. You may need regrading in the yard or an area cleared out. Rest assures our operators and equipment can help carry out your vision.

Many customers also request assistance with backfilling the edges of their new driveway. We do this by purchasing and delivering high quality top soil and installing prior to paving the driveway. Once the driveway is complete we will grade the topsoil along side the edges and lightly compact. Once grass is planted and takes root, the edges will have the strength needed to withstand occasional driving mishaps and excessive water runoff.

Whether it be a new construction parking lot or resurfacing DaCosta Construction handles each project with precision, meeting builders specifications.

When resurfacing an existing parking lot we may opt to mill a thin layer off of the existing surface and install a new layer of asphalt.

Some projects may simply require assessing the current condition and patching and repairing sever cracks and potholes. This may or may not be followed by an additional layer of asphalt throughout the parking lot.
